Utility-scale battery storage and renewable energy additions are outstripping fossil fuel growth in power grid expansion.
Energy grid updates from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) show that solar and utility-scale battery energy storage capacity additions dominate new power grid construction. Over a 12-month period, clean energy additions expanded by nearly 45,000 MW alongside over 17,000 MW of battery storage, while coal capacity fell and natural gas grew at a significantly slower pace.
